Open-source origins

Based on Betaflight

BETADRIVE is an independent open-source firmware project for RC ground vehicles, built upon the work of Betaflight and the projects that came before it.

A bit of history

The lineage began with MultiWii, an early open-source flight controller project for 8-bit microcontrollers. Baseflight brought the software to 32-bit hardware, Cleanflight forked from Baseflight, and Betaflight later forked from Cleanflight to explore new features and flight performance improvements.

BETADRIVE continues this tradition of building on existing open-source work. It takes Betaflight as its foundation and adapts the firmware for ground vehicles, with a focus on steering, throttle control, and vehicle-specific behavior.

Open source and acknowledgements

We acknowledge and thank the developers and contributors of Betaflight, Cleanflight, Baseflight, and MultiWii. Their work established the foundation on which this project builds.

For more on this history, see Betaflight's own introduction and project history.

Independent project

BETADRIVE is developed and maintained independently. It is not an official Betaflight project, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Betaflight team.
